The QUIET /ÒÈÕÎ project was founded in St. Petersburg by the Russian artist and poet Dmitriy Strizhov in 1987. Their first public performance was at the Aurora Magazine Festival in 1989. For a few years, the band existed quietly, playing gigs here and there, recording demos and the song: "Smoke Without Fire" which played on BBC radio. The leader of the band, and author of the music, Valeriy "Silantiy" Rublikov, moved to the United States in 1998, expanding the boundaries of QUIET as well as bringing more drive and creativity to the music. The band's first CD, "Where the Flying Fish Nest", was released in 1997. "The Fourth Day" a song from the album, heard on NPR. In 2003, a second CD, "When The Last Sentinel Falls Asleep" was released. The second 2CD set showed the eclectic style of the band, combining diverse and melodic music with strongly poetic images. Currently, QUIET is more like a studio project. Silantiy likes to experiment with sound, involving different musicians for particular songs, which expands the limits and enriches the music itself. The group's third album "Quieter Than Water" was released in late 2008.QUIET is recording their fourth album .
